Damascus Bread & Pastry Shop is a vibrant bakery tucked into Brooklyn’s Atlantic Avenue, serving up authentic Middle Eastern flavors with a focus on fresh, house-made goods. It’s a spot where the aroma of freshly baked pies and sweet pastries blends with the hum of local chatter, creating a warm, approachable atmosphere that draws in both longtime neighborhood regulars and newcomers looking for genuine Arabic treats.

Inside, you’ll find a wide selection of savory pies ranging from spinach and feta to meat and chicken varieties, alongside an array of smaller bites like falafel and shawarma sandwiches that make for quick, satisfying snacks or casual lunches. The counter staff is notably friendly and efficient, making it easy to assemble a varied order without the wait typical of larger bakeries. This is the kind of place where you can pop in to grab a seriously good falafel sandwich—often praised as one of the best in the city—or pick up zaatar-spiced breads and olives for a home picnic or easy dinner.

The pastry selection is equally rich, offering everything from flaky baklava layered with pistachios to the more indulgent kanafeh and honey cakes that speak to the shop’s commitment to traditional Syrian and broader Levantine desserts. Prices are reasonable considering the quality and authenticity, encouraging repeat visits for both everyday staples and special treats.

Visitors tend to come during daylight hours, whether for a mid-morning pick-me-up or a casual early dinner. The shop feels especially welcoming in colder months, serving as a cozy stop where locals can chat while choosing from a display of colorful, freshly made offerings. For those seeking specialty pantry items like sumac, honey, or zaatar, it’s a reliable and affordable neighborhood source that complements its fresh menu items well.

Overall, Damascus Bread & Pastry Shop resonates most with people who appreciate authentic Middle Eastern baking and the relaxed, community-oriented vibe of a small, owner-operated bakery. It’s a spot that caters well to folks who enjoy exploring rich, regional flavors and want a welcoming, straightforward setting to enjoy them without fuss.

I love this place, it’s incredible, it has all the delicious middle eastern treats i grew up with — spinach pies, pickled turnips, halawa, baklava, etc! all made in house too, absolutely delicious.

This is a Syrian Arab shop that I went to this January before Covid. It is a place where you can buy a variety of Arab foods such as Lebanese bread, zaatar bread, various types of honey, cold and warm prepacked mezes, various olives, dairy products. Not to mention, there are so many types of baklava, etc. It was really cold outside, being inside talking with the funny and friendly guest and the owner, made me so warm and memorable! Besides, I bought my favorite pistachio baklava, which was so good!

I can’t believe this place flew under my radar till today. Incredible falafel sando, maybe the best I’ve had in NYC? Cheap too. I just asked for everything. Also very charming shop. Try for yourself!

super friendly guy running the counter who adds up your items really fast. get your hummus here instead of going across the street to Trader Joe's. you probably won't have to endure a line here too. I was looking to get some sumac and theirs was much more affordable than elsewhere. got some other pantry items for lazy meals. the tabouleh salad was a highlight. I look forward to being back!

This is an institution for a reason. The owner is a warm and welcoming uncle. He patiently explains different items to customers. I bought lavash, schug, and labneh. Finished them in a week. Protect this place at all costs!
